Finding the right laundry detergent for your family can be a challenging endeavor.
I have tried multiple liquid detergents and even made a decent liquid detergent. But my family seems to like the powdered detergent more. Clothes come out clean, bright and smelling great.
Powdered Laundry Detergent
The receipe for this is simple to make and easy to use. Storing and mixing the detergent differs depending on how much you are making. With 8 people in my house we tend to go through a lot of detergent.
I use a 2 gallon bucket with a lid from Home Depot to store our detergent in.

Preparations
The Fels Naptha needs to be ground down into a powder. While you can use a hand grater, I have found the easiest way to do this is to use our blender. Because we go through so much detergent I typically grind up 8 to 12 bars at one time keeping it to groups of four and putting each group of 4 into zip lock baggies to store for later.
Once you have your 4 bars of Fels Naptha ground down, you will mix all 4 incredients together in the 2 gallon bucket. You want to ensure all ingredients are mixed well. The simplest way to to add small amounts (roughly 25%) of each item and then stir them all together. Continue to do this until all items are combined. Mixing in smaller amounts doesn't take too long and it helps ensure everything is mixed thouroughly.
